Lit and Comp: Period 3 - Huck Finn/Jim dialect lesson/examples. For tomorrow, read you assigned chapter from either Douglass or Lester. If you read the Lombardi article last week, you'll read chapter 6 of Frederick Douglass's narrative (link on web page); if you read the Don Haskins article last week, you'll read selections from chatper 4 of Lester's To be a Slave. If you read the Groppi article last week, you'll read selections from chapter 5 of Lester's To be a Slave. Come tomorrow ready to discuss in a group what you read and how you reacted to what you read.
Period 11 - Douglass/Lester reading in class (see period 3 description above to see which students read which articles). Students read their assigned lit, and then met in groups of 3 in which everyone read a different piece. In groups, students discussed what they read and how they reacted to it. Tomorrow, we'll have an entire class discussion for the first half of class.
Hi-Lights I: We finished the interview transcript activity from yesterday. We shared comments about the interviewer's questions and technicque. Near the end of class, students read two sample interview stories from a different high school newspaper. Bring your comments for a discussion tomorrow.
